Lovely country pub and hotel in ideal position for walks in the Derbyshire hills. We pretty much sampled all the facilities, coffee shop, bar restaurant and B&B and could not fault a single thing, lovely roaring log fires cosy friendly atmosphere and staff so helpful. The bedroom were very clean and comfortable and furnished in a suitable style for this type of property, lovely Four Poster bed (only thing that was missing was the curtains round the bed). I loved the fact that we had a cafetiere and fresh coffee along with the usual sachets & biscuits. The food in the restaurant was very good, we had the steak and ale pie an the meat was very tender and plenty of it with delicious rich gravy, we didn't sample the desserts as we were too full! Breakfast is served in the coffee shop attached to the Hotel and again excellent choice an quality.
Visited the Edwardian tea rooms at the side of the hotel, had a lovely coffee and sandwich of beef and horseradish. The beef was very good. An option to get an alcoholic drink from the adjoining pub/hotel. Great staff, the women were both very helpful and courteous, very friendly. Would visit again, would recommend...

This quirky old hotel is a great way to enjoy a visit to Castleton in Derbyshire. We only stayed for one night but wished it could have been for longer. Our room was very comfortable and the four poster was a lovely surprise. The food served here is the best of home-cooked English fayre - definately recommend the pies, the beef and ale especially. Service throughout was excellent and the breakfast was delicious. Would definately come back here. The hotel is about a mile from the centre of Castleton which is a nice walk in so dont forget your walking shoes. Room Tip: Room 2 was very spacious and had a four poster bed - very comfortable

6+ real ales on tap and great food. The chicken pie was one of the best I've ever had

Great pub with a nice cosy atmosphere with real fires. Large selection of cask ales. Dog friendly. Very busy at weekends, we couldn't get a seat on a Friday night despite it being a big pub!
